Year in Review (Meredith Akers)

This activity was shared a couple of years ago by Meredith Akers, a great principal in Texas. And while this activity might require a bit of help with the littlest of our littles, I believe 1st graders and up will have a wonderful time demonstrating their tech skills with this reflective activity.

Is your school year over ... or maybe soon to begin? Look at this with different eyes. Think about all the bits and pieces to this activity:

  • having their own copy - is it because they've mastered assignments in Google Classroom, or another method?

  • typing in text boxes - a MUST have skill on any digital platform

  • reflecting - really thinking through this years activities ... would a year long journal help spur ideas?

  • using Word Art - one step up from text boxes

  • adding/changing backgrounds, color, fonts, etc

  • adding in a photo of themself
Once you break this activity down into it's many parts, look at the skills you need to teach, reinforce, and help your students master by the time you are ready to use this. This single activity might just inspire numerous "pre-activities" to help you get here.

And don't forget to share with parents/guardians? Whether it's individually, digitally, or as a whole class slide show, this is definitely a keeper in my "mom" eyes! Thanks, Meredith!
