Typing Your Name

This activity is unlike others that we've shared. There isn't a template. You will start your littles off with a completely blank Google Doc. That's all the prep work you need to do. Share it in Google Classroom, making a copy for each student. I'd recommend an icon like a pencil or a computer.

It's ideal they also have a name tag on their desk they can easily refer to with the spelling of their name - or do it at a point in the year when you are confident they can spell their names independently. You can set the stage for this activity telling your littles that just like we practice writing our names on paper with a pencil, we can practice typing our name on a Google Doc.

After they open the Doc, you can show them the shift key - or not - in order to make the first letter "uppercase". Have each student type their name as independently as possible, then coach them to use the enter/return key to move down to a new line and then type their name all over again. When they are confident, add in their last last names. This is a Doc they can return to many times over!

You can even take it a step further and have them practice typing other sight words or your name or the schools' name or any words you'd like them to.
