TOOL: Google Classroom

TOOL: Google Classroom is the class management system Google provides in its ecosphere. While it's not a true LMS (Learning Management System), it does provide a good deal of useful features that make it the perfect choice for use in a primary classroom.

WEBSITE: https://classroom.google.com/h

DESCRIPTION: Classroom is a free service for schools, non-profits, and anyone with a personal Google account. Classroom makes it easy for learners and instructors to connect—inside and outside of schools. Classroom saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organized. (description provided in the Google Play Store)

WHO SHOULD USE THIS TOOL: Suggest for teachers and students.

SUGGESTED USE: Classroom is THE BEST method of getting our youngest students to resources, activities, and files that we want to use in our digital classroom. It is also the best first step in teaching them in a digital format.

We suggest using Google Classroom for ALL of the activities we provide on our blog. Once a teacher creates a classroom, students can easily be added and then digital activities can be added and copies made for each student. This eliminates the need for students share work - the teacher automatically has access. Classroom also provides a parent/guardian summary - no access to actually DO the work, but rather an automatic email providing an overview of what is happening in the digital space for their student's classroom.

ADDITIONAL INFO: Google Classroom does not have a cost. It is part of the Google for Education suite of tools. (Classrooms can also be created with non-education Google accounts, although this is not recommend for school use.)
